Sara (she/her) was born and raised on the east coast of Canada, and has had the privilege of living and working on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen people since moving to the island in 2012. She began dancing at a young age and after taking a short break to pursue a career in Interior Design, her passion was reignited after taking classes at Raino Dance in contemporary, jazz, and hip hop. Sara started dancing with Broken Rhythms in 2017, performing in Thyself, Seven, Internal Rhythms, 1000 pieces of Pi, Above Me, Chiaroscuro, and several other projects. Outside of the studio you can find her paddle boarding, hiking, or hanging out in her backyard with her chickens and cat.
Question: What is your favourite part of the show that you’re not in?
There is a moment after a particularly fast piece where a lone dancer is left on stage and out of breath – as the next piece’s music starts, there is a prop introduced that is reminiscent of a spine, and the ‘spines’ start trembling as she stands there, exhausted. It is such a beautiful representation of how the body feels after exerting yourself to the limit, and a moment I can relate to heavily; it gives me chills every time!
