PRESENTER AND MEDIA RESOURCES- ‘On Hold’ presented by Broken Rhythms Dance Company a McPherson Playhouse Premiere

BROKEN RHYTHMS MAKES BEING “ON HOLD” WORTH THE WAIT

Broken Rhythms’ work, “ON HOLD” a McPherson Playhouse Premiere, showing for one night only!

Being put “on hold” happens all too frequently these days. But what happens when you take that frustration, enforced introspection, and even a bit of desperate humour and turn it into a dance? The result is “On Hold,” the latest production from Broken Rhythms which performs the piece on Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the McPherson Theatre.

During a recent hours-long stint listening to repetitive music Broken Rhythms artistic director Dyana Sonik-Henderson reflected on how other aspects of our lives are on hold and used the time to begin creating her latest production.

“I was on hold for 8 hours and I started using the time to think about how we process life’s setbacks and unpack this universal experience of putting our lives on hold,” says Sonik-Henderson. “Listening to that same song over and over even became funny after awhile.”

That humour is reflected in her choreography, along with the anxiety, anger, acquiescence and ultimately mutual support that everyone needs when their lives are put on hold due to various circumstances.

Broken Rhythms is attracting growing enthusiastic audiences in Victoria and across Canada due to their acclaimed performances “Knotted,” “Chiaro:Scuro,” and “1,000 Pieces of Pi.” Each production tackles a different theme or human condition, often using imaginative props, through the rhythmical contemporary style that garners rave reviews.

Dancers from Victoria Academy of Ballet will also be guest performers opening the show with a Broken Rhythms repertoire at the April 4 performance.

Supported by CRD and Raino Dance.

Tickets are available through the Mcpherson box office or through there website www.rmts.bc.ca
