- How has the creation of ON HOLD differed from previous works?
This will be my 15th show with BR, and each show provides a new exploration of what it means to create and share work. From creating works that are site specific, to shows designed for tour, shows that have 3 dancers and shows like this one which have 8, shows with giant props and those with none, remounts to new works, and everything in between…it’s always such a pleasure as a dancer to be part of the choreographic process. This shows has explored a playful comedic viewpoint which I have really enjoyed. It’s been such a privilege to watch the growth of both Dyana and the company as we continue to strive for innovative, captivating, and thought-provoking shows.
2) What inspiration do you draw on for this show?
Each show seems to mirror some aspect of my life. This show for me mirrors the many things I’m ON HOLD for, one being a repair needed for me to continue dancing. For the past 18 months I’ve danced and trained with a torn rotator cuff. Being on stage did not seem like a possibility at the time of the accident, and now this will be my 3rd BR show with a shoulder that is awaiting surgery. The patience, grief, understanding, and pain that have come with this HOLD has been one my biggest teachers. I use this as my inspiration for understanding this current show.
