- What would you say has been the most difficult and rewarding part of creating On Hold?
As a founding member of Broken Rhythms, I’ve been part of so many productions, but On Hold has challenged me in ways I didn’t anticipate. I’m used to pushing forward, always striving for the next goal, the next bit of choreography, the next performance. But this show forces me to sit with the discomfort of stillness—to embrace the feeling of being stuck, uncertain, even vulnerable at times.
At first, this was unsettling. Dancers are trained to move, to express, to communicate through movement. But through Dyana’s choreography, I realized that sometimes the most impactful moments are those of stillness. Waiting isn’t passive—it’s full of tension, introspection, even levity.
One of my favourite moments is in one of the pieces where we’re all caught in this frantic, repetitive rhythm, cycling through the same motions again and again. Instead of resisting it, I started to lean into it, to find significance in the repetition. And then, when we finally break free, it feels so authentic—like that moment in life when something finally shifts after so much uncertainty.
What I love most is how On Hold reminds us that none of us are waiting in isolation. We all experience times when life presses pause, but there’s always motion happening beneath the surface, always people around us ready to share the weight of that waiting. After all these years, this show has given me a fresh perspective—not just on dance, but on patience, perseverance, and the power of embracing the in-between.
