WHO CAN AUDITION?
The Broken Rhythms Contemporary Training Program selects 10 – 15 advanced level dancers from across Canada with a focus on B.C dancers to participate. Dancers must be 15+ years of age or older and interested in furthering their knowledge of Contemporary Dance and the work of Broken Rhythms Dance Company.
* Acceptance into the Broken Rhythms Summer Dance Intensive and Broken Rhythms Contemporary Training Program is by audition only. In-Person and Video auditions are accepted.
Option 1) In person
For our upcoming Summer Intensives, we are offering in-person auditions on the following dates: April 12, 16, and 24 716 Johnson Street Studios Between 2:00–6:00 PM (individual times will be assigned based on availability) Please email which date works best for you, and we will reserve your audition spot. These auditions have a contemporary focus and are part of a workshop and will include a warm-up, across-the-floor progressions, and a combination.
For the full-year Broken Rhythms Contemporary Training Program, in-person workshop auditions will be announced at a later date (TBA). Dancers interested in the full-year program are highly encouraged to participate in one or both of our Summer Intensives. At the conclusion of each intensive, every student will receive an individualized feedback form outlining their strengths and areas for growth.
Participation in a Summer Intensive may serve as an audition period for acceptance into our 9-month Broken Rhythms Contemporary Training Program. More details regarding workshop auditions and program placement will be shared soon.
Option 2) Video Submission
Video audition submissions for our Summer Intensive Program are now open through June 26. Please note that spaces are limited, and we strongly encourage early submissions, as availability may fill before the deadline.
Audition videos for the Full-Year Broken Rhythms Contemporary Program will begin being accepted at the end of June.
What to Include in Your Video Audition Submission:
- Intro / Slate
Please include your name, age, where you live, home studio (if applicable), and a brief overview of your dance experience. - Technical Exercise
One contemporary or lyrical technical exercise
Approximately 1 minute - Contemporary Solo Combination
Approximately 1 minute - Additional Style
One additional dance style that you actively train in
Approximately 1 minute
Competition and recital footage is accepted; however, it must be clear which dancer you are, and proper credit must be given to the choreographer(s).
Please note: Full video submissions must not exceed 5 minutes total, including the intro.
