Broken Rhythms 2026 AGM has been announced and is taking place MAY 5th AT 6pm at Intrepid Theatre.
Join Broken Rhythms Victoria Society Board of Directors and Artistic Director Dyana Sonik-Henderson as we reflect on 2025/2026 and look ahead to the 2026/2027 season.
We invite all our community to attend and anyone who might be interested in serving on the Broken Rhythms board now or in the future.

Company Summary
Broken Rhythms is an independent non-profit dance company dedicated to a distinctive style of Rhythmical Contemporary. Rooted in community and creativity, the company is committed to expanding opportunities for dancers on Vancouver Island while challenging traditional expectations of contemporary dance.
Broken Rhythms is experiencing rapid growth and artistic momentum. Recent highlights include the premiere of a new work at the McPherson Playhouse, a co-production with Intrepid Theatre titled Universal Horrors, and a presentation in Dance Victoria’s Rough Cuts.
Looking ahead, the company is producing an upcoming double feature, 1,000 Pieces of ∏ and 52 Stories in collaboration with Dave Morris. In addition to its performance work, Broken Rhythms has launched a Contemporary Training Program designed to support and develop local contemporary artists.

About the Role
These are volunteer positions within a collaborative and community-driven environment. Board members help provide governance, support financial sustainability, and contribute to the continued growth of dance on Vancouver Island. We’re looking for individuals who are excited about our mission and motivated to help build a thriving future for Broken Rhythms.
Open Positions for 2026
Secretary
- Take and format meeting minutes for distribution (PC/Mac compatible)
- Post and maintain records on the Broken Rhythms Google Drive
- Circulate minutes for review and approval following meetings
- Oversee document organization, ensuring files are properly maintained and stored
Member-at-Large
- Support Board initiatives, activities, and events as needed
- Collaborate with the Artistic Director, President, and Vice President
- Take on at least one key area of focus based on organizational needs, such as:
- Governance support
- Grant writing
- Volunteer coordination
- Fundraising
- Records management
- Marketing, promotions, and publicity

Not quite ready to join a Board but might want to in the future ?
We would still love to hear from you and invite you to strategic planning meetings and/or hold roles on special committees. This allows you to get to know the company and support but not have to commit to all the meetings.
