Broken Rhythms Picks For FRINGE 2018 (Dancers choice)

Broken Rhythms has enjoyed touring the Fringe circuit over the years and we specifically love the Victoria Fringe festival.This year we wanted to share our picks for the Victoria Fringe 2018 and encourage everyone to get out and enjoy as many shows as possible!!

Fringe kicks off on Wednesday August 22 with the Fringe Eve Preview in Centennial Square from 3 – 9pm.


Direct from Argentina, PointeTango dance company brings its latest show Para Dos – For Two! to Victoria. Immerse yourself in the music of Buenos Aires and be swept away by spectacular lifts, graceful ballet, and the passion of Argentine tango.

About the artist/company
Palabra Flamenco combines traditional flamenco with English-language poetry. Artistic director Denise Yeo is a professional flamenco dance soloist and palmera. Poet Garth Martens, winner of the Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers, has published Prologue for the Age of Consequence (Anansi), shortlisted for the Governor General’s Literary Award for Poetry. Guitarist Gareth Owen has collaborated with acclaimed flamenco artists from Spain and North America, and recorded two albums, Gareth Owen Flamenco Guitar and El Cobre. Singer Veronica Maguire co-founded Alma de España. For her 45-year career, she is the winner the Canada Council of the Arts’ prestigious Jacqueline Lemieux Award.

KATHLEEN GREENFIELD is the Co-Artistic Director of SNAFU, and this summer is directing the Victoria premiere of Conchord Floral with Theatre SKAM. She’s also collaborating with William Head on Stage for their fall prison play, The Crossroads.

ROD PETER JR is an Actor, Host, Writer, and Comedian, co-creator of TK 421 Is Dead and a founding member of the Atomic Vaudeville Cabaret.

INGRID HANSEN is the other Co-Artistic Director of SNAFU, and Co-creator of Interstellar Elder, Little Orange Man, and The Merkin Sisters.

The Boy in the Chrysalis tells the story of a broken-hearted man—a grade school teacher by day, a drag queen by night—whose relationship has recently ended. Faced with the banality of everyday existence, this man does what he can to escape from his apartment, his routine—and his life. His story is a portrait of loneliness, compassion, and the fragile power of the imagination.
