Knotted Dancers: Introducing Christina Plaschka

Christina (she/her) was born and raised on the beautiful east coast of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People, also known as Halifax, Nova Scotia. Christina is a founding member of Broken Rhythms, and has developed and performed in the majority of their works, most recently in Above Me and the award winning show Chiaro:Scuro. She began her dance training at the age of two when her parents put her in dance classes in an effort to curb her never-ending energy and continues to this day to study her craft of dance, movement and expression. She has had the opportunity to tour with Broken Rhythms all over Canada and looks forward to presenting this new work at the McPherson Playhouse . Outside of dance, Christina loves to travel and spend time with her rescue dog Ziya.

Question:What is your most memorable moment with Broken Rhythms over the last 14 years?
It’s hard to think of one singular moment because I have so many fond memories of creating, rehearsing and performing with these amazing humans.  If I had to choose, an experience that stands out for me it was when I had the opportunity to tour with the company to Toronto. Being able to perform in front of an audience who had never seen Rhythmical Contemporary before was something truly special and exciting, especially hearing the comments and feedback after the show from our new fans.
